In a previous article I explained what Affiliate Marketing is exactly and how it works, so I thought I’d follow up with my take on how to get started with this online method of monetizing your website.
It has to be my favorite way to make money but you do need to know what you’re doing – done the correct way, with dedication and perseverance, you can do really well with this business model. Many online business owners use this method alone and are financially very rich due to it.
A whole business can be created and managed just by building a website around a topic or niche and then by writing about products or services relevant to the niche.
As part of the planning stages of creating the website, choosing products or services to promote and finding companies that offer affiliate programs, would have been already done. So when content is created you’d already have affiliate products in mind to promote.
Another good thing to do is review products and services and write up these reviews for your website – again, always link to the product using an affiliate link.
People love reading reviews before buying something online, so if your website offers value to readers you are onto a winner.
Watch Out for Affiliate Marketing Scams
I’d say that nearly every online business owner has, at some point, lost money to some Internet Scam that’s been floating about the net, disguised as something worth having.
Do your homework before signing-up to any offer. Check out the company the best way you can. Do searches, read reviews, know what it is you are subscribing to beforehand and not after you’ve lost money or been taught ‘black-hat’ marketing methods that simply do not work or are out-dated.
Being scammed online does not only cost financially but it can harm a person’s confidence. I’ve been scammed in the past and it very nearly resulted in me throwing the towel in on the online world – so glad I found the courage to pick myself back up and continue.
It is also worth mentioning that using out-dated marketing techniques and ‘black-hat’ methods to create websites and get traffic will not only bring you poor results but can harm your online presence, as Google will not look favourably on your site and will probably blacklist it.
What Types of Affiliate Offers Are There?
Most large sized companies offer an affiliate program with varying commission scales; you just need to check out this information as you sign up to them. Plus, more and more smaller businesses are following trend with providing a service for affiliates to join, especially as increasing numbers rise in customers trust with buying online.
Companies such as Amazon offer their own program and this is great for any niche. Whatever your niche; weightloss, pets, sports, or gaming, you will find tons of suitable affiliate programs.
There are also Affiliate Networks in which companies sign-up to and allow the network to manage their program. This is great for both businesses and affiliates because the business sells products through the affiliate and the affiliate has a whole marketplace of programs to choose from.
Here are some of the Affiliate Networks I know and use are: Clickbank, CJ Affiliate by Conversant and Shareasale. Take a look for yourself, I’m sure you’ll find at least one company that interests you.
