Social Media Marketing

Social media has hit the world by storm and continues to grow on a daily basis. With Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to name but a few, it is nearly impossible to avoid this phenomenon.

Statics show that there are 2.13 billion social media users across the world. Social networks have turned from small, niche communities to massive platforms.

What is Social Media Marketing?

Social media marketing (SMM) is the process of marketing a business, individual or product on social networking sites. What this means is the act of using social media marketing to engage and interact with clients, customers and other businesses.

Most social networks are fully aware of the advantages of Social Media Marketing and do cater for business users. For example: Facebook allows for business pages; Pinterest allows a free upgrade to a business account; Twitter has a ‘List’ function and so on.

It is now widely recognised that social signs count more than ever in showing Google that your website is important and people like your content. As a result, your site will receive higher rankings from the search engines. For SEO purposes, it is really important that you factor Social Media Marketing into your online business plan.

Using Social Media to Connect

Social Media is a great place to connect and network with other people who may also be working at home online. There are Facebook groups you can join that are specific to your niche, where you can share ideas, ask for guidance and basically feel less isolated. These are great assets that you can access anywhere at anytime.

Social Media should be a key component in your business. It is a great way to bring traffic to your site; promote your brand and get the word out there regarding your products or services.

If you are not using Social Media you are missing out on a large slice of the cake.

  1. I have always found social media marketing a struggle. I work from home but don’t seem to be able to devote much time to the social aspect of my business. I really wish there were a way to make the whole process a little simpler. Although it’s easy to just ‘add’ your posts to specific social media sites, it’s the follow-up interaction that I struggle with. Any tips?

    1. Hi Tony,

How about asking your readers on social media questions such as how they found your article, or what would they like you to write about or is there a product they’d like you to review. I suppose once you begin a dialogue with your readers asking about them and what problem they need help with would be a great place to start.

  2. Hi Suzanne,

Thank you for the great information on Social Media. I am currently trying to build my online business as well and I have a concern about using Social Media as I don’t want my employer to know what I’m currently working on….as ultimately I hope to build my business big enough to leave some time in the near future. So for example how can I promote my business on FB and keep it from other employee’s etc? Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you

    1. Hi Melanie,

For businesses using social media you can set up business profiles or pages. These are in you business name so your employers won’t necessarily know or realise that it’s you.

If you need any more help, let me know and I’ll be glad to assist.
